In modern history, hydroponics has only been around since about the 1930s. It is a relatively new technology, and has grown rapidly since its inception 70 years ago. It began first as an academic exercise and soon grew to be embraced by industry and government.
Hydroponics has found many new applications. It is a very versatile technology, and has a very beneficial use in developing countries as well as high technology space stations. Hydroponic technology can efficiently grow vegetable crops in what was previously unthinkable – from barren desert sand to desalinated ocean water. It thrives in mountainous regions too steep to farm, on rooftops, in small yards and in arctic communities. In areas with high populations where land is expensive, hydroponics can providehigh-value specialty crops such as fresh salad greens, herbs and cut flowers.
Agriculture tends to migrate toward higher-technology solutions and more capital-intensive solutions to problems. Hydroponics is highly productive and suitable for automation. However, the future growth of hydroponics depends greatly on the development of systems of production that are cost-effective with those of common agriculture. Many improvements in these technologies such as lighting and plastics, and new cultivars with better pest resistance and disease resistance will yield increased crops yields and reduce costs. Hydroponic greenhouses which can use the ‘waste’ heat from industry could expand in the next few years. Geothermal heat could support large areas of greenhouses in the right locations.

Not all garden shed designs have the kind of information that will help make your job easy when building your own garden shed. But there are some things you should know which will help you evaluate which plans are of better quality.
You will of course need multiple plans to help you decide which type of garden shed fits your taste as well as budget. It should include a ‘deluxe shed plan’ which gives you the prints for vinyl siding and trim. It should also include the economy version which gives you the wood siding version.
If the garden shed plans are lacking in any of these areas- easy to read building plans, complete materials list, full size rafter templates, door and window framing instructions, then you may want to pass and look at other prints. And by having the full size rafter template the hardest part of building a shed just became easier. The rafter template can just be traced on to the rafters to make the cutting job much easier. This eliminates the mistakes in trying to read a framing square.

If you’re redecorating your home, and want to put in some new floors, then you want to find a flooring material that is both beautiful and inexpensive. Of course hardwood really looks classy, but it costs more than you want to spend. Pergo flooring provides an answer to your needs. It imitates hardwood so well that it takes an expert to see the difference — and the cost is quite a bit less than real hardwood.
Pergo fooring was first introduced in Sweden more than 30 years ago, but only recently made its debut in the United States. After an initial success, Pergo made a deal with Home Depot to carry their line in all of their stores. And now the Pergo name is becoming almost synonymous with laminate flooring.
There are basically three reasons why Pergo became the best selling flooring in the world so quickly. They use only the highest quality materials, installation is simple, and the floor is easy to maintain. Pergo flooring has more design patterns than any other, and it is eco-friendly since it doesn’t use real wood — only wood by-products. And if you are worried about harmful chemicals, Pergo doesn’t use any — not even glue.

This is the time of the year when I would rather just laze around and not do anything. For some reasons, I just want to stay inside the house and wait for spring to come. Very soon; however, the snow and ice will leave us once again and the time to go outside and do outdoor work will come. Given this, it’s time that we start making our plans as early as now.
As early as now, we can decide as to which outdoor chores can be possibly done once the sun comes out again. We can also start thinking or eyeing professionals whom we can ask to take care of our homes.
Below are some outdoor tasks which may want to consider:
Lawn Cutting
If you’re just like me, then I am sure that you enjoy cutting gras on your own and enjoying the very moment of “just being outside.” True enough, there is nothing like the smell of fresh cut grass on a weekend morning. And so as early as now, you better get your mower and have it tuned up. Check the oil, the spark plug and sharpen the blade.

What can we plant in our gardens this spring that will insure plenty of material to fill our vases, bowls and other flower containers this summer? The answer is annuals. Annuals are probably used for cutting more than any other type of flower. They may be used alone or combined with perennial or shrub blossoms.
An annual is a plant which completes its life cycle in one year, or in one growing season. Plant it this spring, and it will bloom this summer – and no more. The term “annual” is also applied loosely to perennial plants which bloom the first year from seeds but do not normally survive low winter temperatures even though they are perennial in warmer zones.
Annual plants of a limited number of varieties may be purchased in the spring. For a much wider selection, seeds should be sown. Plant them at the proper time to insure good germination. Often this information is given in catalogs or on seed packets.

Buying a tree poses a lot of challenges. First, there’s the entire process of growing and taking care of it and the second is the initial step of choosing which type of tree you would want to grow. You can consider a wide range of attributes like the size, the kind of fruit it bears, etc. There are different sizes of trees – the dwarf, the semi-dwarf and the standard. You choice will have an impact on your entire growing experience like the rewards that you will get from it and the amount of work that you will have to put in.
Dwarf trees are perfect for yards with limited space. These kind of trees only need an 8-feet plot of land. They may not grow as tall as standard trees and yet; there fruits grow take the same size as the normal ones. Most people favor dwarf trees because they are easier to prune and their fruits are easier to harvest. And though they do not live as long as the larger trees do, they start growing fruits after three to five years. Before you even buy your dwarf for the yard, take time to check its age to avoid confusion and misinterpretation.

Seven Steps to a Better Garden This Year
Would you like to have a better garden than you had last year, with less effort on your part? The answer, of course, is an emphatic “yes,” so here are a few suggestions.
Basically the formula is simple, namely, to do now everything you possibly can to save yourself later on – steps, time, worry and lost opportunities.
Even simple formulas dont work unless you do something about them. lets get this one started right by working out a step-by-step plan and then following it through.
Order early
In all probability you will want some new flowers, shrubs, and trees, and probably grass seed, with which to improve your garden at planting time. Send right now for a number of catalogs or visit their websites covering the items in which you are especially interested – not only plant materials but insecticides, fungicides, fertilizers and garden tools.
Consider power equipment, if possible, as it is a great time and labor saver. A few minutes invested will bring you a wealth of information about all of these things. By being an early bird you will find out about a new flower, shrub or garden implement before you see it in a neighbors garden or hear about it at your garden club.

One the best places to hold outdoor events for family and friends is a home’s patio. Patio furniture is often used to help people sit back, relax and enjoy the event. However, not all outdoor furniture is comfortable by itself. This is where patio cushions come into their own by making the furniture more comfortable.
Patio cushions also have the ability to make your patio and the furniture look better. There are many different style and patterns to choose from, and it is important that you buy the right cushion that suits both your home and patio’s decor. The right patio cushion set can simply transform the look of your patio and garden.
While the color and pattern is vital when choosing patio cushions, the actual fabric that they are made from is far more important. This is because they will be exposed to the wear and tear of the rain and sun.
This means the material will need to be resistant to fading in the hot sun and withstand the heavy rain. The cushion will also need to be made in such a way that insects or other nasties won’t be able to nest inside the fabric or filling. There are a range of different materials available that are ideal for outdoor use.

You may have noticed (or not, since the newer models are so realistic) an increasing number of artificial trees out there these days. They are common in offices and even homes. Artificial trees have made incredible advances in recent years and they are incredibly realistic ” they are often made with real tree bark and other natural elements and added onto with imitation of the highest quality and craftsmanship.
These trees are so life-like that they are the next best thing to nature itself and will attract birds and butterflies to visit amidst their leafy canopies and branches. Much of the popularity of these trees is undoubtedly due to the ease of care and the low maintenance that they require. Instead of fertilizing, watering, trimming, and providing adequate sunlight, you can bring the look of tropical splendor to any indoor space with only a bit of dusting needed on occasion, to sustain the look.
They do not cause allergic reactions, as an artificial tree has no pollen and never drops leaves. The beauty of these trees can be enjoyed any time of year, inside or out.
