Learn Installing A New Toilet
It is always better to replace an old and damaged toilet rather than repairing it. Installing a new toilet is not very difficult and do not require much time. In a toilet you can also get gaskets, washers and hardware for fitting the tank to the bowl.
However you might need to buy a few parts like toilet bowl, toilet tank, toilet seat, two 1/4″ bolts for bowl to flange, wax ring, 20″ water supply with fitting at valve or floor connection and tools like pair of channel pliers, bucket and screw driver for installing a new toilet.
Before stating the installation, shut off the water to the toilet. Now remove the water left in tank and bowl after you flush the toilet. Using a pair of channel pliers or a small pipe wrench (8″), remove the nut where the water line fastens to the ballcock valve.
Next use a small crescent wrench and remove two 1/4″ nuts holding the bowl to the floor flange. You can now remove old toilet and also the water line from valve or fitting at floor or wall. Now you are ready to install your new toilet.
Now you need to put two 1/4″ bolts near the side holes of the flange and bolt head in the flange. Don’t forget to put some old wax at this point to keep the bolts straight and now place the new wax ring on flange.
The placement of new bowl should be such that it sets exactly over the wax ring and the nuts on two sides could be properly tightened. Take care to tight the nuts properly and not to over tight it as in over tightening there are chances that the bowl could break. Don’t forget to tight all these nuts again after complete installation.
Now place 2″ rubber gasket on tank at a place where it rest on the bowl. Take the tank and fix the bowl over holes in bowl where bolts could be tightened. Fix the bolts from inner side of the tank and tighten all the nuts.
Use a large screw driver inside tank and a crescent wrench or end wrench to back up nut under bowl. Tighten with screw driver. Hook water supply to tank, turn on water, check for leaks and snug up the bolts holding bowl to floor and your installation is complete.
