Thinking of adding an extension to your home in the easiest possible way could be in the form of a conservatory, as that is rather a rapid and cost-effective medium to extend your living space.

One is usually endowed with different styles of conservatories that are inclusive of the Edwardian, Victorian and Gable Ended styles. White conservatories are still perceived to be highly renowned ones, but then, you may have a variety of colour options as well. These are available in cream, blue, black and even green colours.

If you are not any specialist, one solution is to purchase a wooden hut. Huts can come ready made or can be made to any specification that you wish for, if adequate space is available and you have permission to do so.

Home extension may create hassle, but you need to plan it in a way that it runs in a smooth way. You may not be able to use your garden or drive for few months, but you have the benefit that you are not supposed to move. It is not necessary that extension will be technically complicated, requiring a lot of structural changes. With simple and trendy design, you can plan out your extension.

In order to sustain considerable heat in cold months and reduce the fuel costs, all the double glazed windows, doors and roofs would comprise of a low E glass that would reflect back heat into the conservatory.

Wooden walls can vary in width. If you require a wooden hut for storage space, a narrower twenty eight millimetres wall is perhaps adequate. If the hut is to be used for living purpose, a thicker wall of forty four millimetres, seventy millimetres, hundred millimetres or even more would be prudent. This, of course, depends on the type of weather you live in; the colder it is, the thicker the wall must be. You can even have a fused wall, which consists of two walls, alienated by an air crater for extra insulation.

Before you initiate construction of a wooden hut, you should first check with the construction restrictions for your region. Check with neighbouring establishment to see what type of construction permission is needed. You should do this before you even start working on clearing the site.

It is advisable no to just go and order for construction work. You should have quotes from different builders and then choose a builder who is professionally sound and understand your needs. Before finalizing, face to face meeting with builder is a good option, because in that case you can exactly explain your requirements in a simpler and easier way.

When you are renovating your basement ensure that you have arranged everything. First of all, you must decide firsthand what kind of replacement basement windows you want.

In the past, basement windows are usually made of wood or metal frames. But then, there’s a downside from using these materials, they often rot or rust. And so, your basement windows can be damaged sooner or later. If you have this problem, then window replacement is the solution.

You can choose to hire a company that specializes on basement window replacements. Aside from that, you should also learn something about this company before you purchase anything.

Here are some things to consider when buying basement windows:

1. Window design – as the windows can affect the over-all design of the room, you should choose a design that goes along with your interior theme or motif. Fine looking windows mustn’t just look fine from the inside but the exterior must look good, too.

2. Purpose – windows can also be a passage for objects. Most of the time, it’s not easy to bring the poles, boards, or ladders into the basement through its entrance because the stairs are too steep while the doors are too narrow. A good replacement basement window must not just provide good ventilation functionality but also should be accessible for passing items that can’t get through the entrance.

3. Window design – as the windows can affect the over-all design of the room, you should choose a design that goes along with your interior theme or motif. Fine looking windows mustn’t just look fine from the inside but the exterior must look good, too.

Whichever kind of windows you choose, pick the one that will best fit with your basement’s interior design. And as there are a lot of fine-looking window designs out there, a few may be more expensive than the others but the quality would really be good. Moreover, before buying any window, check the design, functionality, and sturdiness first.

In 1995, I built my first home without the help of any contractors. I didn’t do it to prove anything at all; I just wanted my family and me to have a nice place to live without the high mortgage payments. I paid cash for as much of the materials that I could. Most of the time, I used credit cards and builders cards.

I began the foundation and dug it out with a shovel. Then I built the cement forms and poured the cement. After the foundation, I started the first floor by putting on the floor joists then covering them with plywood. Then I built the walls that included the window and door openings.

I also did most of the electrical and plumbing systems while the walls were open and exposed. I built the stairs and started the second floor. Soon I built the roof and enclosed the whole house to keep rain and snow out. I put metal on the roof and installed all the doors and windows.

After the house was all enclosed I started making the interior walls and finished the electrical wiring and the rough-in plumbing. I needed to have those systems inspected before the sheetrock was hung. After my home passed the first inspections, I enclosed the walls with drywall and taped them with drywall compound.

I also sided the outside of the house with vinyl siding and trim. It looked great. I built kitchen cabinets and started all of the interior finish work. I then installed all the appliances and electrical systems.

The house passed the second round of inspections with the electrical inspector, plumbing inspector, and the building inspector.

I had all of the carpeting and flooring installed by professionals. Once everything was all finished, I had one final inspection left to get an occupancy permit. After we got the permit we moved into our house. We were able to consolidate all of our debt from credit cards into one mortgage loan with low interest. We had a high amount of equity in our home from our hard-earned labor and sweat equity.

My total cost of building materials was right around $60,000. The final appraised value of our home was $140,000 when we moved in.

It was then that I realized how much the cost of labor is and why modern homes are so expensive to buy. The price of contracted labor has increased so much over the last two decades that people making average to good incomes can’t even afford average homes.

Banks and lending institutions have had to take many chances and risks in financing so people could have homes. Wages haven’t increased enough to keep pace with the inflation of homes and that’s the main reason why we are in this housing and financial crisis.
