Types Of Plumbing Pipes
There are many different types of choices when it comes to plumbing your home. For water supply, there is PVC, CPVC, PEX, Galvanized, and copper pipes. Copper and CPVC are the most popular. CPVC is the easiest to install.
Galvanized pipe is not a good plumbing resource for your home. It rusts from the inside and eventually it will reach the point of being useless completely and will have to be replaced. As it rusts, the pipe actually becomes smaller on the inside restricting water flow.
A specific type of glue is used to join the CPVC pipes together. These pipes are cleans before gluing with a specific type of cleaner. The glue and the cleaner make it very strong and safe for home plumbing but these should be used very carefully and in a well ventilated area only.
Another popular choice for home plumbing is copper pipes. They are soldered. This task needs to be handled with great care as it can be dangerous otherwise. You need a torch for this job and also a spray bottle of water with you.
PEX tubing is used for radiant floor heating systems because of its flexibility. The turns are easily made allowing for the loops to be made with ease. PEX can also be used for hot and cold water supply. You must have a special tool to crimp the fittings when joining the tubing to a fitting.
You can try doing plumbing tasks at home, but you should follow all the safety precautions while doing the task. Read all the directions and the warnings before starting with anything otherwise you can cause more damage than repair. Like, soldering of copper requires a torch than can cause severe burns if not handled carefully.
Complete protection should be used while handling these jobs. Always use some goggles and gloves while performing these tasks.
Be very careful while using the cutters used for cutting the pipes. The glue used for CPVC pipes is also very toxic so it should not be used in a close space. If you think that the task is too complicated for you, then it is better to call a professional plumber.
